Get Rid of Wildfire Smoke from Your Home


Wildfire has destroyed hundreds of homes in Oregon and California. Fast moving wildfire outbreak causes many problem for local communities, homes and businesses. It also forces lots of people to evacuate from the danger zone.

  1. Power wash the outside of your home.

  2. Get bags of active charcoal and put them around the house.

  3. White vinegar and baking soda are your best friends.

    1. For your clothes, put a cup of vinegar into washer, it can help you deodorize your clothes. It might take a couple of washes before the smoke odor is washed out. Do not dry your clothes until smoke odor is gone.

    2. Spray white vinegar over hard surfaces and let the white vinegar dry completely. Make sure not to use it on natural stone surface and lightly mist on wood surfaces.

    3. You can also place bowls of baking soda around the house to absorb the odor.

    4. Dust baking soda on soft surfaces. Make sure the baking soda completely covers the surface. Let the baking soda sit for several hours then sweep/vacuum away the baking soda.

  4. Make sure you thoroughly clean and disinfect all surfaces and wall inside your home with cleaning products.

  5. Clean all the items in your home including, mattresses, carpets, upholstery, etc.

  6. Do not use air freshener! It will not help with eliminating the smoke odor; it will just mask the smoke smell.
