COVID-19 May Adversely Affect Male Fertility

SARS-CoV-2 is really turning out to be the little virus that could.

A recent study out of China published in the Lancet based on male deceased as well as recovering COVID-19 patients has found that COVID-19 inflammatory symptoms extend through the male reproductive system.

Specifically, they found physical damage such as edema and thinning of seminiferous tubules, as well as lowered sperm counts. It is currently unclear if the damage is long term/permanent versus temporary. However, as we have discussed in previous blog posts, COVID-19 was found in studies to have the potential to inflict long term hidden heart damage in a significant population of recovered patients.

Perhaps for those of us that value our long term health (e.g., our family jewels), we need to continue taking this pandemic seriously, and especially if we are younger.
